J.R.R. Tolkien immediately captured our interest in Bag End, Bilbo's unique dwelling in Chapter One of The Hobbit "An Unexpected Party". In this first chapter we are given a description of the wonderful Hobbit people of the Shire (particularly those of Bagshot Row!) who lived and loved a wonderfully simple life laden with the best of comforts and family.
In that first chapter we are given the description of Bilbo Baggins highly coveted and prized dwelling place: Bag End in Hobbiton.
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.
This laser-engraved map is a wonderful interpretation of what the Floor Plan of One Bagshot Row may have been. As the Bagginses were very well thought of and their home openly coveted by the Sackville-Bagginses, it was, of course, among the finest in all of the Shire with rooms and passages, a well-appointed kitchen, pantry, guest bedroom, wine cellar and more!
And if you look closely, you may see the secret passage where Bilbo was rumored to have filled with gold, the full 14th share of the gold of Erebor, granted to him by Thorin and Company on their quest to vanquish Smaug the dragon. Of course, Bilbo was so often bothered by suspicion and nosy guests that whenever he was asked about his hoard of money he often responded, "It was ONE small chest!... Hardly overflowing!... And it still smells of troll".
This whimsical Lord of the Rings gift is quite the conversation piece and any fan of the Tolkien book series will enjoy adding this Bag End map to their collection of Hobbit memoribilia. The Bag Eng Map pictured is laser engraved on solid wood in several wood varieties and sizes. Note that all wood is a minimum of 3/4" thick and will stand upright on any shelf or mantle easily. I will also include a picture hanger on the back for easy ahnging on your favorite wall as well.
