The Finger Lakes Cycling Club was founded over a half-century ago (in 1971) and has provided a way for people in our region who are interested in the many aspects of cycling to meet each other and participate in organized group rides, races, bike tours, and related activities. We organize occasional clinics on topics of interest to our members, including fitness, bike handling, basic bike maintenance, and group riding skills, along with providing a variety of online resources, available to the public, on the club website at fingerlakescycling.org. Membership in the club allows participation in the full gamut of our activities along with access to several members-only features including joining the club's RideWithGPS account.
The Bike The Finger Lakes 11 Challenge was begun in April, 2021 with the objective of inspiring and challenging as many people as possible to bike around all 11 of the Finger Lakes, and in the process raise the awareness and visibility of cycling in the Finger Lakes region. As of late-2022, a total of 247 people have registered for the challenge, and 61 have completed it by bicycling around all 11 Finger Lakes. This is a lifetime challenge, so it is never too late to register and participate at bikethefingerlakes.org . The challenge is open to anyone, club membership is not required, and no fees are charged. The Finger Lakes Cycling Club provides the challenge as a public service to our region.
Victor Wood Forge, in cooperation with the Finger Lakes Cycling Club, has designed this Bike The Finger Lakes 11 Challenge Tracker as a fun way to allow challengers to keep track of their progress biking around each of the Finger Lakes. As each of the Finger Lakes challenges is completed, the corresponding Lake piece and Bicycle piece are inserted into the map. A small amount of the purchase price ($5) goes to the FLCC to cover some of the club's expenses associated with administering the challenge.
