So, what is the definition of Bourbon?  Is it different from Borubon Whiskey, Whiskey or Whisky?  For those who are maybe not as well versed in the art of enjoying whiskey, let's have Webster's come to the rescue!  Neatly engraved on either oak, maple or cherry (make your selection when ordering) is Webster's definition of bourbon.

/boor-buhn, boor-baan, bur-buhn

Also called bourbon whiskey.  A straight whiskey distilled from a mash having 51 percent or more corn: originally produced in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

Founded in the county of Bourbon, Kentucky, this early whiskey was aged in oak barrels marked with "Old Bourbon" and shipped on the Ohio River.  It's flavor, which came primarily from the heavy use of corn, was different from other recipes and it came to be labelled as Bourbon Whiskey to distinguish it from other styles.

Production of Bourbon Whisky was all but abolished in 1919 during prohibition with the exception of a select number of distilleries which were allowed to produce it for medicinal purposes.

Today, Kentucky accounts for 95 percent of the Bourbon production in the United States.  The state even has a Bourbon Trail which includes some 56 different distilleries, all producing bourbon.

This whimsical laser-engraved bourbon definition makes a great gift for your next Bourbon Tasting party.  Bring this engraved definition as a gift (along with your favorite bottle of Bourbon) to your host and enjoy having a discussion on the origins of bourbon making!

Blocks are generally 3"x8" but will vary in size and grain pattern.  Oak is a popular choice as this is the wood of choice for aging bourbon and other spirits.
