One of the most popular challenges in the Adirondack Region of New York State is to take on the Adirondack 46 Peak Challenge. To be crowned a 46'er, one has to register with the Adirondack 46er website, receive their climber number, then summit all 46 peaks in the region in any order and at any time in the year. For those that accomplish this task (which can take from 1-2 years to several to a lifetime), they are recorded as a finisher and are eligible to purchase finisher merch from the store.
Each of the Adirondack Peaks has a unique challenge all its own. K from distance, to elevation change to maintaining navigation and more.
Summiting all 46 peaks takes athletic conditioning, careful planning and time. And for those that are taking on the challenge, I say that each and every peak summited deserves more than just checking off a box on a pad of paper...
